Monday, Schmonday

Why do I dislike Mondays when I don't even "work"? I guess it's just that I'm too in love with the weekends, that's all. I love the Friday night excitement of what's to come, the planning, the packing. I just love DOING stuff on the weekends. Then Monday comes. *sigh* So, I try to fill the day with all the mundane things I *need* to do (like laundry, running to the bank, dishes, etc.). If I get all that junk done (big if), then I feel free to run around with Zeke's friends/my friends for the rest of the week guilt-free. I did get a lot done today, but I'm left with this feeling of boredom about my day. I mean, ok, there's a nice pile of freshly laundered/folded clothes, a clean house, my trip to the bank is finally done, but what fun did we have? Nada. Monday, schmonday. I still dislike Mondays...

As Jenn knows, I've gotta run to wipe a butt. Yep, you read that right...wipe a butt. The glamour of motherhood calls as Zeke just ran into my office here in a round of tears because he needed help in the "butt department." I happened to be on the phone and Jenn heard the whole thing. Nothing new to her though - she's got two little butts at home that get into dilemmas, too. :)

The Simple Things

This weekend turned out to be full of the "simple things" in life. Movies, trips to Home Depot, planting flowers, ordering pizza, and today we went grocery shopping. This isn't a normal Sunday thing for us as a family. I usually go during the week with Zeke and get it done while Pauly is at work. But for some reason, I really wanted to do it today. Pauly seemed mega-drawn to his computer this weekend with a ton of work-related deadlines looming, so I thought getting him out into the sunlight and then into the aisles of calorie heaven would be a nice reprieve. Well, I was wrong. Everyone knows it's not good to go food shopping on an empty stomach. Pauly's stomach was hollow. I could hear it grumbling above the noise of my iPod while driving to the Giant. As Zeke would say, "not good." So, as soon as we walked in, I was rushed to get done and well, I don't like being rushed when I'm shopping. Even when it's just grocery shopping. When I'm rushed, I panic. When I panic, well, I crumble. Ask Weezie. She'll tell you the story about the man falling through our ceiling while we were working in the chem lab. I couldn't even manage to dial 911. I froze. Then I laughed. And laughed and laughed and laughed. I still laugh. As a matter of fact, she and I BOTH still laugh. We just laughed about it on Friday. Anyway, I just don't do well under pressure, so I spent $200 on ridiculous stuff at Giant because I was panicky. TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. And I have no idea of what we're having for dinner tomorrow night, people. *sigh* Nope, not good...

What's on the agenda for tonight? Ever watch that show The Two Coreys - the one about Feldman and Haim? I'm embarrassingly in love with that show. I'm a closet watcher. So, I'm planning my night around it. In 2009, I will resolve to purge myself of all these ridiculous reality shows. Until then, it'll be the Coreys at 10 tonight and then, wooo hooo, on July 13th (Tarsia, aren't you sooooo PUMPED???), Big Brother returns. I'll watch that over the summer, love/hate it, discuss it with Tarsia, try to convince Andrea to watch it (she'll never do it), and that'll be my big t.v. love affair until the fall.

Not sure what we're doing tomorrow - probably hanging with our playgroup buds. Another week of summer fun! Stay tuned...

Hot buttered popcorn

It's hot out today. Not the good hot where you want to go and play in the sun all day and have fun. It's the humid, bad hair, sticky skin, runny makeup type hot out. Rain forest weather. So, I decided we would go to the movies to see Wall-E. I love going to the movies on a hot day. There's something fun about packing a sweater in the middle of a heatwave that seems illegally awesome. And what's even more illegally awesome??? Sneaking in bootleg snacks!!! I was good though - I only brought in a PB&J for Zeke and my huge 1 liter bottle of water for myself. Anyone who REALLY knows me, knows that I can't travel anywhere without my monster bottle of water. So, we hit the theater and chilled out (literally) to enjoy Wall-E. It was a cute movie. Pauly and I actually enjoyed it and Zeke sat through most of it without jiggling around too much. Of course we had to do the unavoidable snack run midway through (I think he just wanted to check out the gumball machines/game room, but it gave him the much needed five minute break he requires during these types of events.) Ya' know, for a 3 year old, it's remarkable that he can make it through a 2 hour movie. Yippee for me, too, because now I can reclaim a little bit of my former life - seeing the inside of a movie theater! I don't think I've seen a movie in 3 years. Crazy what having a kid does to you.

We're back home now and the next mission is a trip to Home Depot to find a sturdy enough rope to hang a tire swing from our flowering crab apple tree out back. Yep, I finally found a tire and more remarkably, I've finally convinced Pauly that it's imperative Zeke has a genuine tire swing. I had one when I was growing up and it was the peanut butter to my jelly! I mean, I can't imagine my childhood without it. Not only did I swing on that thing until the sun went down, but tons of treasures were hidden in it's belly. Old Barbie heads that had been decapitated by "All Time Favorite Dog Fritz" or my evil brothers and were too precious to be thrown away were deposited in the tire swing belly. My brothers stored Matchbox cars, worms, and other ugly boy stuff in there. Our spare house key lived there and anyone who was anyone knew to go into our back yard and reach into the big black tire to get the key to the kingdom. So, yes, I stopped at J&M Tire yesterday, asked for an old tire, and the nice man behind the counter smiled like he was remembering his own tire swing, and loaded one in my trunk. He told Zeke to enjoy it and shook his hand. It was pretty cool. So, we're off to find some rope. I'm sure Pauly would rather read the newspaper on the big, comfy couch...but he knows better. He knows I have more important things planned for the weekend. And once he ties that tire up on the tree, he'll forget all about the newspaper.

Say Cheese.

Today was the semi-annual picture day for Zeke. I've put it off for the past month or so just because it's always so...strenuous. I leave there tired, sweaty, headachey, thirsty, and with mascara running down my face. I guess the best way to describe it is it's like taking Nixon to the vet (Mom, you'll appreciate that one..). In the past, Zeke has NOT been an easy client for our photographer, who also happens to be a very good family friend/nicest guy in the world. In other words, it's the type of sitch where you'd want your kid to like, be on his absolute BEST behavior ever. Know what I mean??? So, going into this today, I had low hopes. I think I would have rather seen Warren for a root canal (Warren's our dentist). At least Warren tells some really awesome stories about his African Grey. Anyway, surprisingly, Zeke was ok. I mean, not great, but not embarrassing either. His pix are so cute and Michael really captured so many good expressions - ones I'll treasure forever. I'm going to try to post one of my faves - check it out. Dad from Arizona: I'm sure you'll be loving this bloggy life of mine now - you're getting up to minute info. and the latest and greatest pix as they happen! Sweeeeet, huh???

More posts soon...I'm off to plan our weekend. What shall I get us into this weekend???? :)

My First Blog

Wow. I thought this would be more difficult. I've wanted to start blogging for a while now, but I've put it off and put it off for fear I'd be techno-challenged. I guess I'm not as "mommy-fied" as I thought I was. Ok, confidence is returning. Good sign. Now onto the meat and potatoes of this thing. What to blog about...what to blog about. Hmmm. Well, of course, Zeke. That's what you all want to know about anyway, right? Well, sure. Why not - he's hysterical. So much an adult in a little 3 year old body! So, today I ran to the mall to pick up an outfit for his big picture day tomorrow. I was looking and looking for the perfect thing to pop up, when, voila!, there they were - the MOST adorable madras plaid shorts EVER! I picked them up and Zeke said to me "no, Mom, seriously, they are too tiny." I mean, who SAYS that when they are 3??? He talks to me like he's my friend, not like he's my toddler son! I know I secretly love it, but I guess I should try to be the mommy in this relationship...

So, anywhooooo, what else have we been doing? Hanging with Zeke's playgroup buds, going to the park, playing with Mom Mom and Poppy, and having fun on the weekends. Yeah, summer weekends are the BEST. Last weekend Pauly took a vacation day on Friday and we just had a ball! We went to Sesame Place and rocked Big Bird's world, then on Saturday we hit Dutch Wonderland for a little waterpark fun and some amusement rides. Zeke got his face painted like a dragon and proceeded to roar at everyone he came in contact with for the rest of the day. Ummm, it really wasn't a well spent $9.99. We decided to take a gondola ride across the park (I thought it would be so fun and romantic to see the tops of the trees with my two boys)...well, I had a mini panic attack midway through the ride. I feared I would drop my flip-flops on someone's head along with my lunch. I got it together enough to make it through the ride and was even brave enough to get back across the park to where our stroller was parked. Favorite memory of the day at Dutch Wonderland (Pauly, you'll remember this one..): Zeke continously going down the waterslide and disregarding the rule that everyone must stand in line to wait their turn. Bonus footage: the pointing of the finger at "mean lady's" daughter, all caught on video for eternity and lots of future giggles. Note to self: work on teaching Zeke the importance of NOT cutting in line... ugh.

We definitely qualify as weekend warriors for last weekend's shennanigans. But hey, that's what it's all about, right? Rock 'n' roll, peeps! Still lovin' my chi-chi's too - but you all know that!

Bye for now.
